The story of us:
Once upon a time a farm boy and a small town girl met in North Iowa. Now, just because someone is a farm boy doesn't mean they're a redneck. This one had Green Day cds in his car that he played on the aftermarket stereo he installed. He was a captain of the football and wrestling team. Being a farm boy means that you're not afraid of hard work, you'll try to fix anything, and you can drive anything with an engine. This small town girl wasn't always a small town girl; she'd lived in 7 different places by the time they met and her favorite vacation spot was the middle of the desert. She was the oldest child of an ex-hippie and a Psychology/Art Major. They named their children things like "April Eve" and "Amber Rose". She wore vintage tees from Goodwill and drove an '83 Trans Am (yes, it had t-tops).
They recognized kindred spirits in one another and soon became close friends which, as we all know, quickly leads to one or both of you liking each other. We started dating when we were Juniors in high school and were married when we were 19 (April) & 20 (Travis). We lived in different places (ask us about the time we lived in a funeral home or a girl scout camp) and did different things (waitress, legal assistant, sold insurance & cable, custom fertilizer applicator, construction) until we bought an abandoned farmhouse and 20 acres. We remodeled and started a family, moved all around Iowa again, until April became friends with a photographer who said, "hey, you take good photos, you should be a photographer!" April's the kind of person who isn't going to do something at all unless she can do it well, so she became obsessed with learning everything to know about cameras and lenses. When her first opportunity to photograph a wedding came along, she reluctantly took it. From that wedding on, she knew she would be a wedding photographer. Watching someone's story unfold in front of you and having the privilege of documenting it was so good.
Since then, we've moved around the Midwest, tried other things, raised our three kids, flipped a few houses, owned a few businesses, traveled a bit more, but we still love weddings. We only take a few weddings every year so we can give our full attention to those couples. We love photographing love.
